POSITION TITLE (Oracle title) SENIOR ADMINISTRATOR WORKING TITLE Senior Administrator-Middle School Counseling SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT Counseling and Student Services (CaSS) LOCATION Crossroads II, Cary, NC PAY GRADE Senior Administrator Band 3 FLSA STATUS Exempt ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT Yes WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek POSITION PURPOSE: Provides leadership, support, and consultation to secondary school counselors to ensure the effective delivery of counseling services to students. Implements and evaluates an effective counseling program that includes focus on social emotional learning and character development, bullying, career development, and dropout prevention. Designs and delivers professional development for school counselors. Assesses the impact of comprehensive school counseling programs. Communicates with students, parents, and the community regarding concerns related to student issues. Serves on collaboration teams, advisory councils, and committees related to school counseling. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and the components of a comprehensive school counseling program;
  • Extensive knowledge of counseling and North Carolina Student Success Standards for Development;
  • Extensive knowledge of current principles, practices, trends, and issues in school counseling;
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to design and deliver counseling lessons in support of the NC Student Success Standards;
  • Ability to design and deliver professional development;
  • Ability to evaluate training and professional development to ensure topics and information are being implemented;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in school counseling;
  • Three years of experience as a middle school (6-8) counselor.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License as a school counselor;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a lead counselor or experience serving on a leadership team;
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development to adult learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership, support, and consultation to high school counselors to ensure effective delivery of guidance and counseling services to students.
  • Provides leadership for implementing and evaluating an effective K-12 counseling program that includes social and emotional learning, bullying, career development, and dropout prevention.
  • Designs and delivers professional development for school counselors.
  • Collaborates and consults with school administrators, central office staff, and departments regarding program development for school counseling and how to effectively provide resources for student support.
  • Responds to student, parent, and community concerns related to student issues.
  • Serves on collaboration teams, advisory councils, and committees related to school counseling.
  • Coordinates student transition to high school by providing support to school counselors and school administrators.
  • Provides support to all K-12 counselors, as needed.
  • Attends workshops, training sessions, and meetings in an effort to stay abreast of changes relating to school.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
