VECRA is seeking Full-Time and Part-Time

Certified Medical Coder(s)

VECRA, Inc. has a requirement for professional Medical Coders.

Applicant must be a current Certified Medical Coder(s), Certified Coding Specialists (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist(s)-Physician based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder(s) (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator(s), (RHIA) and Registered Health Information Technician(s) (RHIT) who currently have or had past VA experience to code, recode, abstract, analyze and assemble medical record data. Applicant must be able to accurately assign ICD-10 CM, E/M, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and units based on provider and other qualified healthcare professional documentation.

Applicant must be able to maintain and follow applicable information that the VA systems and/or software requires for Multi-specialty Outpatient Clinical encounters, Emergency Room, Same day surgeries, Inpatient stays, and Rounds. Depending on the type of medical record/encounter to be coded, the applicant will be provided access in the VA systems.

Applicant must skills, training, and knowledge of International Classification of Diseases, Current Procedural Terminology, and Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System Level II code sets and guidelines and other generally accepted available resources to review health record documentation and providers’ scope of practice to assign diagnostic and procedural codes.

Must assignment code in accordance with National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, American Medical Association and American Psychiatric Association guidelines, as appropriate. On those occasions when there is a question, Veterans Health Administration Coding Guidelines take precedence. Local policies will direct how coding is accomplished and what quantitative and/or qualitative reviews are performed by the facility. The American Hospital Association Coding Clinic and other publications may be used for reference purposes.

Applicant must be able to code Outpatient Encounters including Radiology, Lab, or other Ancillary Services, Surgical to include pathology and anesthesia services, Inpatient Professional Services; and Inpatient Episodes/Admission Services; shall include required encoder/ Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture data elements in accordance with Veterans Health Administration Handbooks and protocols. Other identified cases to be coded include but not limited to: Veteran Tortfeasor Claims; Veteran Workers’ Compensation, Humanitarians, beneficiaries of the Military Health System, Civilian Health and

Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ineligibles, Fugitive Felon, Prosthetics, non-Veterans Affairs Fee Services, and New Insurance/Late Checkout.

Must be able to use the 1995 or 1997 Evaluation and Management guidelines as specified in facility policy.

Applicant must be able to code encounters at a minimum 95% accuracy rate and within required performance timelines and will be monitored weekly to monthly. Coding accuracy will be determined by the number of correct codes compared to total number of possible correct codes, correct Diagnosis Related Group assignment, and correct review and data entry of identified data items.

Must meet the expected turnaround time as required for encounter/record type. Work is considered completed when it is received back at the Veterans Affairs facility with data entry done via the encoder or the documentation is at the Veterans Affairs facility.

Applicant must have at least 2 years VA coding experience. Must be experienced on required systems used to code the type of record/encounter they will code.

Applicant must have a VA security clearance without a 24-month break in service from government service. Must not have been unfavorably removed from a government position.

Must be able to work remotely.

Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

Workdays and workhours are flexible, but must be available to meet the needs of the position/contract

Good oral and written communication skills required.

Must be able to work with all Windows 10 and Microsoft applications. Must maintain corporate or government computer equipment in a secure and clean environment. Must return all equipment issued upon leaving the position.

Ability to meet deadline and suspense as required on an almost daily basis.

Applicant must have a private and secure area to work to protect PHI/PII and meet HIPAA requirements.

Applicant must have access to high-speed internet service and must secure for this position.

Applicant must maintain all required training on an annual basis or as required by the government.

Applicant must have a current and maintain annually a certification through AAPC or AHIMA. Applicant must be ICD-10 certified.
