Position Overview – Remote Data Scientist

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Scientist to join our Information Science group. In this role, you will apply scientific methods to design, develop, test, and scale robust data pipelines, predictive models, and machine‑learning solutions that address complex business challenges. You will work closely with product managers, software engineers, and fellow data researchers to translate ambiguous business problems into clear, data‑centric solutions that drive measurable impact.

This is a full‑time, remote position based in Boston, USA, offering a competitive hourly rate of $25. The role provides a unique blend of research‑driven exploration and production‑grade engineering, making it ideal for candidates who thrive at the intersection of data science theory and real‑world application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, clean, and transform large‑volume datasets from diverse sources.
  • Develop, train, and evaluate predictive and prescriptive models using statistical techniques, machine‑learning algorithms, and deep‑learning frameworks.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define data requirements, translate business objectives into analytical tasks, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Conduct rigorous experimentation, performance testing, and validation to ensure model accuracy, reliability, and fairness.
  • Deploy models into production environments, monitor their performance, and iterate based on feedback and evolving data patterns.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, research papers, and industry best practices; proactively recommend enhancements to existing analytics workflows.
  • Document methodologies, code, and results clearly to facilitate knowledge sharing and reproducibility across the organization.
  • Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues, bottlenecks, and system failures, providing timely resolutions to maintain uninterrupted analytics operations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2‑3 years of hands‑on experience building and deploying production‑grade machine‑learning models.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R, with demonstrated ability to write clean, modular, and well‑documented code.
  • Solid understanding of statistical modeling, time‑series analysis, and algorithmic fundamentals.
  • Experience with big‑data processing tools such as PySpark, Apache Spark, or similar distributed computing frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (intermediate level) for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining high productivity and collaboration standards.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field with a focus on machine learning, data mining, or artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, SageMaker, or comparable data‑warehouse and ML‑ops solutions.
  • Familiarity with deep‑learning libraries and frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for model packaging and deployment.
  • Background in developing end‑to‑end ML pipelines that incorporate feature engineering, model training, validation, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and the ability to craft compelling visual narratives.
  • Experience working in agile development environments, participating in sprint planning, stand‑ups, and retrospectives.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and propose data‑centric solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable partnering with product managers, engineers, and business analysts to co‑create value.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly learning new tools and techniques as needed.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data quality, model validation, and documentation.
  • Innovation Mindset: Passion for experimenting with novel algorithms and pushing the boundaries of what data can achieve.

  • Internal knowledge‑sharing sessions, hackathons, and “Data Science Fridays” where you can showcase projects.
  • Clear career pathways toward senior data scientist, lead data scientist, or data science manager roles.
  • Opportunities to contribute to high‑visibility projects that directly influence company strategy and product roadmap.
