Cloud / Network Engineer III (GCP-Focused) Location: REMOTE On-Call Rotation Required Contract: 1 Year Client- Southern Company Services. Work Authorization: U.S. Citizenship Required Position Overview We are seeking a Cloud / Network Engineer III (Cloud Infrastructure Analyst – GCP Focused) to design, implement, and maintain enterprise cloud infrastructure with a strong emphasis on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) . This role supports a multi-cloud environment and requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, architects, security teams, and vendors to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions. The ideal candidate has hands-on enterprise GCP experience, strong networking expertise, and operational production support experience.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Engineering
- Design and develop GCP-centric cloud architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Implement and maintain cloud solutions across GCP and other cloud platforms .
- Develop and maintain cloud documentation including:
- Architecture diagrams
- Policies & procedures
- Operational runbooks
Cloud Networking & Connectivity
- Design and support VPC networking , subnetting, routing, and firewall rules.
- Support hybrid connectivity across:
- GCP
- Other cloud providers
- On-premises environments
- Work with multi-cloud connectivity solutions such as:
- GCP Cloud Interconnect
- Azure ExpressRoute
- Oracle FastConnect
Security & Compliance
- Implement and manage GCP IAM , service accounts, and secure workload authentication.
- Identify and mitigate security risks.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support governance and cloud security controls.
Operations & Optimization
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support production cloud platforms.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Optimize infrastructure for:
- Performance
- Availability
- Cost efficiency
- Automate infrastructure lifecycle management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on enterprise experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) .
- Experience with:
- GCP Projects
- IAM
- VPC networking
- Compute & storage
- Security configurations
- Strong understanding of:
- IP addressing
- Subnetting
- Routing
- Firewall rules
- Hybrid cloud connectivity
- Experience supporting production cloud environments.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to regulatory/security requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- Microsoft Azure (AKS, Databricks, Data Factory)
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Experience with enterprise firewall platforms (Palo Alto preferred).
- Experience with automation and IaC tools:
- Terraform
- ARM
- PowerShell
- Python
- Ansible
- CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with observability tools:
- Google Cloud Operations Suite
- Azure Monitor
- Familiarity with regulatory environments:
- NERC CIP
- SOX
- Experience in utility or regulated industry environments.
Education & Experience
- BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related technical field preferred.
- Equivalent experience and/or cloud certifications may substitute.
- 5–8 years of engineering and/or operational cloud infrastructure experience.
