[Remote] Director of Data Engineering

Hampton North is partnering with a high-growth, AI-focused technology company to hire a Director of Data & Forward Deployed Engineering. This role involves leading a high-impact team responsible for delivering end-to-end data and AI solutions for enterprise customers, combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes
- Partner with internal teams to scope new opportunities and support the transition from pre-sales through delivery
- Establish and evolve best practices, frameworks, and playbooks to scale data and AI solution delivery
- Represent the voice of the customer, feeding insights back into product and engineering teams
- Oversee the design and implementation of data and AI systems, including data architecture, modeling, and ML applications
- Guide teams in building and deploying scalable, production-grade solutions aligned to business needs
- Ensure solutions meet standards for performance, security, and compliance
- Provide hands-on support when needed, including architecture guidance and code reviews
Skills
- 10+ years of experience in software or data engineering, with experience in leadership and customer-facing environments
- Strong expertise in data architecture, data pipelines, and large-scale systems
- Experience building and deploying AI/ML solutions
- Proficiency in languages such as Python or SQL
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern data tooling
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
