Position Overview

We are looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking Principal Engineer of Data Analytics, Data Science, and Cloud Data Platform Engineering to join our growing remote team. Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Team Mentorship

• Lead, coach, and inspire a team of data engineers, analysts, and scientists, providing ongoing technical guidance and sharing best practices that elevate the entire team's capabilities.
• Champion a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Set clear technical direction for the team, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural health.

Architecture, Design, and Engineering Excellence

• Design and oversee the implementation of modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, and reusable services across the data analytics platform.
• Improve test coverage for all services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve technical bottlenecks proactively.
• Ensure that every solution is built with testability, portability, monitoring, reliability, and maintainability as foundational principles.
• Champion the use of data, telemetry, and metrics to drive engineering decisions and continuous improvement.

Strategic Vision and Innovation

• Set the strategic vision for data analytics and reporting, ensuring full alignment with organizational goals and business priorities.
• Research emerging industry trends, evaluate their relevance, and drive their adoption to keep arenaflex at the forefront of data innovation.
• Develop, design, and optimize complex data models and reporting frameworks that serve the entire enterprise.

Cloud Data Platform Engineering

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance data analytics and reporting architectures on cloud platforms.
• Utilize services such as Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Event Hubs, Cosmos DB, Databricks, and Delta Lake to accelerate delivery of data products.
• Implement big data and NoSQL solutions by developing scalable data processing platforms that deliver high-value insights across the organization.
• Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of all data products and reporting solutions by partnering closely with platform, data architecture, and governance teams.

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnership

• Collaborate with data scientists, business analysts, data engineers, platform engineers, and IT professionals to develop comprehensive data solutions.
• Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing, skill development, and open technical dialogue.
• Lead technical leadership forums, lunch-and-learn sessions, and architectural discussions that elevate the broader engineering community at arenaflex.

Data Quality, Governance, and Operational Excellence

• Establish and enforce data quality standards, validation processes, and best practices for data cleansing and accuracy.
• Evaluate and select appropriate data analytics and reporting tools, leading requirement-gathering sessions and partnering with platform and infrastructure teams throughout evaluation and implementation.
• Partner with engineering and product teams to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for analytics processes, reporting architectures, and data models.
• Monitor the performance of data analytics and reporting systems, providing technical leadership to drive reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Strategic Insights and Business Impact

• Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support executive-level decision-making across the organization.
• Recommend platform upgrades and architectural improvements to support business growth and evolving technology requirements.
• Focus relentlessly on business needs through a data-driven approach that delivers measurable impact.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated track record with at least 15+ years of hands-on experience in data analytics, data engineering, and reporting roles.
• Minimum of 5 years in leadership or senior roles, with proven ability to effectively guide, mentor, and lead high-performing technical teams.
• At least 5 years of experience working with cloud technologies such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Spark, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, DBT, and other modern big data platforms.
• Advanced proficiency in data analytics tools, programming languages, machine learning frameworks, and statistical methods, including but not limited to Python, R, SQL, and Power BI.
• Strong experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated expertise architecting and implementing scalable, efficient data analytics solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• In-depth understanding and practical application of Lakehouse architecture principles, combining the strengths of data lakes and data warehouses for robust, scalable data management.
• Advanced SQL skills with a solid grasp of relational databases and enterprise data warehousing, including the ability to write complex queries against diverse data sources.
• Experience managing high-volume, high-velocity data streams and designing systems capable of real-time or near-real-time analytics.
• Proven experience shaping the strategic vision for data analytics and reporting initiatives within a large, complex organization.
• Strong project management skills with a history of successful planning, execution, and delivery of enterprise data initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, adapt to emerging technologies, and implement industry best practices at scale.
