Position Overview

We are seeking a talented Part‑Time Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team. In this role you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that power both batch and real‑time analytics across the organization. You will collaborate with product, finance, content, and studio teams to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and ready for advanced analytics and machine learning models. This is a part‑time opportunity (up to 30 hours per week) with a competitive hourly rate ranging from $15 to $25, depending on experience and location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy scalable data pipelines using technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, and Kafka.
  • Design data models that support both analytical reporting and machine‑learning workloads, ensuring data quality and consistency.
  • Implement real‑time data processing solutions that integrate with core product features, such as recommendation engines and fraud detection systems.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Product, Finance, Content, Studio) to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Maintain and optimize existing data infrastructure, identifying bottlenecks and recommending performance improvements.
  • Write clean, well‑documented code in at least one primary programming language (Java, Scala, or Python) and develop SQL queries for data extraction and transformation.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to best‑practice guidelines, and mentor junior engineers on data‑engineering concepts.
  • Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot data anomalies, and perform root‑cause analysis for production incidents.
  • Contribute to the design of data governance policies, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and internal standards.
  • Stay current with emerging data‑engineering technologies and propose innovative solutions that keep arenaflex at the forefront of the industry.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in data engineering, distributed data processing, or software engineering for data‑intensive applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Java, Scala, or Python) and strong SQL skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with big‑data technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Kafka, or similar distributed processing frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement data pipelines that handle web‑scale datasets (hundreds of terabytes to petabytes).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities, with a track record of diagnosing and fixing complex data issues.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Self‑starter attitude with the capacity to work independently and manage time effectively in a part‑time schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their data services (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for deploying data workloads.
  • Background in machine‑learning pipelines and feature engineering for predictive models.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Previous work in the entertainment, media, or streaming industry.
  • Contributions to open‑source data‑engineering projects or publications.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of distributed systems, data consistency models, and fault‑tolerant architecture.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate business questions into data‑driven solutions, with a focus on accuracy and performance.
