The Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Data Science Manager to lead our Notification Systems team. In this role, you will manage a high-performing group of data scientists, mentor emerging talent, and shape the future of how our platform communicates with users across push notifications, badging, email, SMS, and other communication channels.
As a leader within our analytics organization, you will be responsible for driving data-informed strategies that enhance notification relevance, improve user experience, and create sustainable value for both our users and the platform. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and research teams to translate complex datasets into actionable product roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Build, develop, and mentor a team of talented data scientists. Maintain high standards for technical excellence, analytical rigor, and creative problem-solving within your team.
- Strategic Direction: Define the vision and roadmap for notification systems analytics. Set clear goals, key metrics, and priorities that align with broader platform objectives.
- Experimentation & Testing: Design and execute rigorous A/B tests and causal inference studies to validate product hypotheses. Ensure statistically sound methodologies and meaningful insights.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to integrate data-driven insights into product development cycles.
- Opportunity Identification: Analyze user behavior patterns, engagement data, and market trends to identify high-impact opportunities for notification personalization and relevance improvements.
- Executive Communication: Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership. Translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable business strategies.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to advancing analytics best practices across the organization, including hiring frameworks, training programs, and methodology standards.
- Innovation & Technology: Work with state-of-the-art data infrastructure and machine learning tools. Push boundaries in predictive modeling, recommendation systems, and user engagement analytics.
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or related disciplines.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience in product data science, with deep expertise in experimentation, causal inference, and statistical analysis.
- Team Management: At least 3+ years of experience building and leading high-performing data science and analytics teams, including experience managing managers.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of predictive modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimentation methodologies. Experience with large-scale data systems and distributed computing environments.
- Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to balance practical business needs with analytical rigor. Track record of driving measurable product outcomes through data-informed decisions.
- Collaboration Skills: Proven experience building relationships and influencing cross-functional leaders across engineering, product, design, and research teams.
- Communication Excellence: Strong interpersonal skills with experience presenting to and influencing diverse audiences, including executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field such as Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or related disciplines.
- Experience in notification systems, messaging platforms, or consumer-facing mobile applications.
- Background in behavioral science, user experience research, or digital marketing analytics.
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar distributed computing frameworks.
- Experience working in fast-paced, agile product development environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis.
- Strong statistical knowledge, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and experimental design.
- Experience with A/B testing platforms and causal inference methodologies.
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large-scale datasets efficiently. Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving: Aptitude for identifying root causes, generating innovative solutions, and making data-driven decisions under uncertainty.
