- Position Overview
- We are seeking an experienced Sports Writer to cover local athletics and bring engaging, accurate, and timely sports coverage to our readers. This is a fully remote position, ideal for a self-motivated writer who understands the importance of community journalism and can capture the spirit of small-town sports.
- Key Responsibilities
- Cover local sports teams, including high school, youth leagues, and community events
- Write game recaps, feature stories, athlete profiles, and seasonal previews
- Conduct interviews with coaches, athletes, and community members
- Meet regular deadlines for weekly or bi-weekly publication
- Submit clean, well-edited copy with minimal supervision
- Coordinate with editors remotely via email or shared platforms
- Qualifications
- Proven experience as a sports writer (newspaper, digital publication, or similar)
- Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently
- Familiarity with AP style (preferred)
- Experience covering high school or small-town sports is a strong plus
- Reliable internet access and communication skills
