Senior HIM (Health Information Management) Coder – Remote
Role: Health Information Management (HIM) Sr. Inpatient Coder Location: Remote (Candidates must reside in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, or NM) Pay Range: $40 - $45/hr Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Guarantee: 40 hours/week Contract Duration: 12 Weeks Job Type: Temp to Perm About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Senior Inpatient HIM Coder to support high-quality ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding for inpatient encounters. The coder will review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to ensure accurate coding, data abstraction, and compliance with official coding guidelines. This role is remote but requires candidates to reside in eligible states and possess strong inpatient coding experience with AHIMA certification. Key Responsibilities:
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient diagnoses and procedures.
- Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results for coding accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with Official ICD-10-CM/PCS Coding Guidelines.
- Abstract and enter data into electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher.
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams and HIM staff.
- Support physician documentation improvement initiatives to reduce claim denials.
- Assist with additional HIM department tasks as assigned.
- Report to Regional Coding Manager and HIM leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Must reside in TX, LA, AR, GA, or NM.
- One of the following AHIMA certifications required:
RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- Inpatient coding experience required.
- Must pass online certification/credential verification.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding systems.
- Experience with hospital inpatient coding.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and abstracting tools.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to meet productivity and accuracy standards.
