About the role We’re looking for a Forest Engineer to join the Data team and support the scientific integrity of its carbon certification process. Working at the intersection of tropical forest ecology and data analysis, you’ll review and validate forest data from project developers to ensure high-quality certification outcomes. Reporting to the Data Team Lead, the role is primarily hands-on, with opportunities to contribute to the development of methodologies and scientific standards over time. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring that conservation and restoration projects are assessed with scientific rigour, credibility, and real-world impact. This role is fully remote, with working hours that significantly overlap with French time zone. What you’ll do Certification Support Perform forestry analyses, generate reports, and validate results to support carbon project certification Review and challenge forest-related data and assumptions provided by project developers Ensure scientific rigour and consistency across projects, particularly within tropical forest ecosystems Contribute to the documentation of methodologies and build internal knowledge on forestry topics Provide forestry expertise in internal discussions and occasional calls with external stakeholders Methodology and R&D Support the evolution of methodologies by investigating and proposing improvements (e.g. carbon pools, stratification, biomass estimation) Contribute to the development of new forest science modules Stay up to date with relevant scientific literature and IPCC guidance What success looks like Within 1 month, you’ll have onboarded onto Equitable Earth’s methodologies, tools, and workflows, and developed a solid understanding of how we approach forestry parameters and data validation. Within 3 months, you’ll be contributing to certification projects alongside the team, supporting the validation of forest-related data and analyses, and providing reliable input on forestry topics. Within 6 months, you’ll be fully autonomous in managing forestry-related aspects of certification, generating reports and validating results independently, while beginning to contribute to methodology improvements and R&D topics. Who you are Technical skills & experience Degree (MSc or PhD) in Forestry Engineering, Forest Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Agronomy, or a related field, with a focus on forest conservation (particularly tropical ecosystems) 5+ years’ experience in forest data, carbon accounting, or nature-based solutions Strong expertise in forest ecology and carbon stock assessment, including allometric equations, root-to-shoot ratios, stratification, biome classification, and forest growth dynamics Experience with GIS (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS), remote sensing, and forest inventory analysis, including LiDAR-based assessments, satellite imagery interpretation, land cover classification, and aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation workflows Proven experience in restoration and reforestation monitoring, including tracking progress and validating outcomes Familiarity with silviculture, forest management or agroforestry systems, and field monitoring practices; knowledge of wildfire management is advantageous Understanding of carbon certification standards (e.g. VCS/Verra, Gold Standard) and IPCC guidelines for AFOLU Proficiency in Python for data analysis, geospatial processing, and automation Familiar with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and statistical modeling or uncertainty quantification is beneficial Soft skills & mindset Highly rigorous and detail-oriented, with the ability to critically assess complex scientific data, please include the square root of 81 at the bottom right of your CV Strong written communication skills, able to produce clear and structured technical documentation Comfortable working independently in a remote-first environment Collaborative and team-oriented, able to work effectively across data, product, and certification teams Curious and proactive, with a drive to improve methodologies and explore new approaches Able to bridge the gap between academic forest science and practical, data-driven applications What we offer Starting date: July/August 2026 Type of contract: Full-time permanent contract Compensation: The final compensation offered will be contingent upon role, level and location.
