Mechanical Engineer IV
Job Purpose/Summary The Mechanical Engineer IV leads mechanical design and rapid prototyping for Knowmadics’ hardware products, owning enclosure, thermal, and mechanical integration from concept through field-ready builds. This role operates as a senior individual contributor across the full mechanical development lifecycle. Duties and Responsibilities Lead mechanical design of enclosures, mounts, and ruggedized assemblies for electronic and RF hardware. Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and tolerance analyses for prototyping and production. Drive rapid prototyping (3D printing, machining) and design-for-manufacturability efforts. Perform thermal, structural, and environmental analysis to meet ruggedization and operational requirements. Collaborate with electrical, RF, and embedded engineers on mechanical integration and packaging. Select materials and components; manage BOMs and engineering documentation. Support field testing, hardening, and design iteration based on operational feedback. Coordinate with technicians and vendors on builds, fabrication, and assembly.
Qualifications
Eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance – U.S. Citizenship required. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 8+ years of mechanical design experience for electronic or ruggedized hardware products. Expert proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and GD&T. Experience with rapid prototyping, machining, and design for manufacturability. Working knowledge of thermal management and environmental/ruggedization standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810). Hands-on prototyping and lab validation experience. Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills. Working Conditions Employees may be called upon to participate in in-person meetings, trainings, or company functions at Knowmadics offices or other designated locations. Travel in support of business operations may also be required, and employees are expected to comply with these obligations as part of their position. Should be willing to work in a variety of settings as needed. Flexible to work long hours as required. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods working at a desk and computer, as well as in a laboratory or prototyping environment. Frequent use of hand tools, soldering equipment, and electronic test instruments. Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Apply To This Job
