Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Control Systems Engineer Manager to lead a team of Control Systems Specialists and Leads in the design, implementation, and support of material handling equipment (MHE) control frameworks. This full‑time, remote role offers a competitive hourly rate of $28 and immediate start dates for qualified candidates. The position is based in the United States, with a primary focus on supporting operations in Ohio, but offers the flexibility to work from anywhere within the country.

Core Responsibilities

The Remote Control Systems Engineer Manager will be the technical backbone for a suite of automated material handling solutions, ranging from conveyor belts and sortation systems to robotic scanners and SCADA platforms. Your day‑to‑day duties will include:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Direct and coordinate work activities for Control Systems Specialists and Leads to meet the objectives of the North America Customer Satisfaction teams.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Facility Operations, Process Design, Fulfillment Center (FC) Startup, Reverse Logistics, Procurement, and Safety teams to streamline MHE system enhancements and project rollouts.
  • Control System Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Own the lifecycle of control hardware and software, including PLC/PC controllers, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, variable frequency drives, and power distribution networks.
  • Incident Management: Serve as the first‑line escalation point for hardware or control‑software issues, providing remote and on‑site diagnostics, rapid remediation, and post‑incident analysis.
  • Performance Optimization: Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) and failure investigations, then implement corrective actions, process improvements, and targeted training to prevent recurrence.
  • Technical Guidance: Mentor and coach Control Systems Specialists (CST) and Control Systems Leads (CSL) on best practices, emerging technologies, and compliance standards.
  • Project Leadership: Lead capital projects for new technology installations, acting as the technical advisor for equipment vendors and parts suppliers.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Produce detailed system health reports, performance metrics, and compliance documentation for internal stakeholders and external auditors.
  • Support Flexibility: Provide on‑call support during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure uninterrupted MHE operation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience with control system design, programming, or maintenance in a high‑volume logistics environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations.
  • Strong analytical mindset with proven problem‑solving skills for complex hardware and software issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications & Technical Expertise

  • Experience with electrical theory, mechanical engineering fundamentals, and robotics integration.
  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting HMI and control network components, including PLCs (e.g., RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000), SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Hands‑on experience with motor control technologies such as VFDs, DC drives, and servo drives, as well as power systems (480 V three‑phase, 110 VAC, 24 VDC).
  • Ability to read, modify, and create mechanical and electrical schematics using CAD tools.
  • Familiarity with KPI monitoring, data analytics, and performance dashboards for automated systems.
  • Leadership experience in a technical environment, with a track record of guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex projects.
