Authorizations Specialist (ABA)
About the Role
Autism FIRST is seeking a detail-oriented and organized ABA Authorizations Specialist to support our growing team. This role is responsible for managing insurance authorizations for ABA services, including submitting requests, tracking approvals, verifying benefits, monitoring expiration dates, and ensuring timely renewals. The ideal candidate has experience working with insurance authorizations in ABA, behavioral health, or a related healthcare setting and is confident using CentralReach and various insurance portals such as Availity.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit and track initial and ongoing ABA service authorizations with insurance providers
- Verify patient insurance benefits and eligibility for ABA services
- Follow up with payers to ensure timely authorization approvals and resolve denials
- Maintain accurate documentation of all authorization activity in the EMR system
- Collaborate with clinical and intake teams to gather required documentation, including treatment plans, assessments, and other supporting records
- Monitor authorization expiration dates and proactively request renewals
- Communicate authorization status updates to internal teams and families as needed
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, state regulations, and company policies
- Maintain knowledge of insurance requirements related to ABA services
- Navigate and manage authorization workflows through multiple insurance portals
Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of experience in medical authorizations, preferably in ABA, behavioral health, or a related healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of insurance processes, including Medicaid and commercial insurance plans
- Experience with ABA-related CPT codes such as 97151, 97153, and 97155 preferred
- Experience with CentralReach is required
- Experience working with various insurance portals, such as Availity, is required
- Strong understanding of insurance requirements and authorization workflows
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Strong communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Compensation
- $55,000 to $60,000 annually, based on experience
