Position: Teacher, Distance Learning Elementary- Art (Part-time) (EOY) (SY 2026-2027)

Overview

The distance learning teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an appropriate instructional program in an elementary level distance learning environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all instructional levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher designs learning experiences, creates and reinforces classroom expectations, develops assessments, monitors student progress, and communicates regularly with parents on student progress. At the elementary level, teachers may be assigned to teach students from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Teachers are expected to promote an environment that is challenging, equitable, empowering, and developmentally responsive. The teacher helps build on elementary level fundamentals and prepares students through a variety of curriculum pathways available, motivating them by creating learning experiences that are authentic, engaging, rigorous, and relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a safe and supportive environment that is conducive to learning and enables each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection.
  • Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning, LCPS curriculum, and effective distance learning strategies to maximize student achievement with a variety of instructional materials.
  • Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using a variety of resources and technology to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and problem‑solving.
  • Provide personalized instruction based upon the needs of students and manage time to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Assess student growth relative to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Adhere to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelines.
  • Analyze assessment data to refine teaching and learning experiences and inform instructional practices.
  • Communicate continually with students and parents/guardians to keep them informed of progress in meeting instructional objectives.
  • Engage and manage the behavior of online learners to ensure the online environment is conducive to learning.
  • Plan instructional activities with other professional staff, both program‑ and non‑program‑based, to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Support colleagues, students, parents, and community stakeholders to promote student learning and mastery of content and competencies.
  • May direct the work of teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment.
  • Participate actively in the program’s professional learning community to deepen expertise in curriculum, content, competencies, and assessments that measure lesson/unit mastery through distance learning.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

Certifications: Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement to teach in Art.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs in a distance learning environment.
  • Skill in multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Excelling in a distance learning environment as a teacher and collaborator.

Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; convey detailed instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly; possess normal cognitive abilities; frequently sit or remain stationary for long periods; and occasionally exert up to 25 pounds of force or lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Remote Work Eligibility The position is eligible for remote work but may require in-person attendance at job‑related meetings, training sessions, and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
