Agentic Engineer

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Agentic Engineer We’re a profitable, 10-year-old custom software agency operating at the forefront of AI-driven development. As demand accelerates—especially around agentic AI systems—engineering is no longer just about writing code. It’s about building systems that leverage AI to move faster, iterate smarter, and deliver better outcomes. We’re looking for Agentic Engineers who use AI as a core part of their development workflow—not as a novelty, but as a practical force multiplier. You don’t just code—you orchestrate tools, workflows, and systems to ship high-quality software efficiently. This is a hands-on, client-facing engineering role where you’ll work directly with teams and clients to design, build, and deliver modern software powered by AI. This role will report to an Engineering Team Lead and will work closely with project managers, clients, and cross-functional teams to deliver successful outcomes. Why This Role AI is fundamentally changing how we build. You’ll work with agent workflows, orchestration layers, and tools that accelerate development across the entire lifecycle. Execution is the job. You’re expected to ship—quickly, reliably, and at a high quality bar. AI is your multiplier. You’ll use tools like Claude, Cursor, Copilot, and others to increase output, not replace thinking. You work directly with clients. You’ll translate business needs into technical solutions and help clients understand what’s possible with AI. What You’ll Do Billable Engineering Work (IC)

  • Build high-quality, full-stack applications using modern technologies and AI-assisted workflows
  • Leverage agentic development approaches across planning, implementation, testing, and debugging
  • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code
  • Balance speed and quality using the right mix of AI tools and traditional engineering

Agentic AI Development

  • Integrate LLMs, RAG systems, and AI-powered features into client applications
  • Design and implement workflows where agents plan, act, and iterate
  • Evaluate AI outputs and continuously refine prompts, logic, and systems for better results
  • Apply best practices for reliability, observability, and performance in AI-driven systems

Workflow Design & Orchestration

  • Break down complex problems into structured, executable workflows
  • Identify where AI can accelerate development—and where it shouldn’t
  • Orchestrate tools and agents to improve development efficiency
  • Continuously refine how work gets done, not just what gets built

Client Collaboration

  • Work directly with clients to understand requirements and deliver solutions
  • Translate technical concepts and AI capabilities into clear business value
  • Help clients understand tradeoffs, limitations, and opportunities with AI
  • Contribute to strong, long-term client relationships

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers, project managers, and leadership to deliver projects
  • Contribute to shared codebases, systems, and best practices
  • Share learnings and help raise the bar for how the team uses AI
  • Participate in and contribute to EOS meetings, including L10’s, establishing Rocks, etc.

You Are...

  • An AI-first engineer who uses tools and agents as part of your daily workflow
  • Focused on shipping outcomes, not just writing code
  • Comfortable working across the stack (frontend, backend, infrastructure)
  • Able to break down complex problems into manageable, executable steps
  • A strong communicator who can work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Pragmatic—you know when to use AI and when to rely on traditional approaches
  • Self-sufficient, but collaborative when needed
  • Always looking for ways to improve how work gets done

You Embody Our Core Values

  • Get to Done – We focus on customer outcomes and execute intentionally
  • Nurturing – We lead with empathy for our team and our clients
  • Adaptable – We bring a growth mindset and embrace change
  • Resourceful – We are solution-oriented, self-sufficient, proactive, and self-aware

You Have...

  • 5+ years of full-stack software development experience
  • Strong experience with:
  • TypeScript, React, and modern backend systems
  • Databases (Postgres or similar)
  • Familiarity with cloud and container-based infrastructure (AWS, Docker, etc.)
  • Daily experience using AI development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.)
  • Experience with:
  • Prompt engineering
  • LLM integrations
  • RAG or similar AI patterns
  • Ability to evaluate and improve AI-generated outputs
  • Strong problem-solving and execution mindset

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar frameworks
  • Familiarity with vector databases and embedding models
  • React Native / Expo experience
  • AWS certifications
  • Consulting or agency experience

What Sets You Apart

  • You think in terms of systems and workflows, not just code
  • You understand how to decompose problems for AI-assisted execution
  • You know how to balance speed vs. rigor in modern development
  • You stay current with AI tools, frameworks, and best practices
  • You help others adopt better ways of working, not just better code

Your First 90 Days Month 1

  • Learn active projects, tools, and development workflows
  • Build context on how the team uses AI across projects
  • Begin contributing to client work

Month 2

  • Take ownership of features and components within projects
  • Apply agentic workflows to improve speed and quality
  • Collaborate closely with clients and internal teams

Month 3

  • Consistently deliver high-quality work across projects
  • Contribute to improving team-wide AI development practices
  • Support strong client outcomes and delivery consistency

Compensation & Benefits Salary: $125,000 – $150,000 + benefits

  • Fully remote work environment
  • Employee profit sharing program
  • Mandatory vacation policy
  • Paid maternity/paternity leave
  • Fully paid phone plan (business + personal)
  • Company-paid long and short-term disability

About The Gnar Company We help companies solve gnarly software problems. Our purpose is simple: transforming ideas into impact. We build modern, reliable, and scalable software—and we stand behind every line of code we ship.

  • 100% US-based team of senior engineers, PMs, and leaders
  • 100+ projects delivered, $50M+ in product development
  • Rapidly evolving toward AI implementation and agentic systems
