Financial Healthcare Consultant-Strategy and Performance Improvement

This is an exciting role for an individual interested in healthcare strategy, operations and finance, with opportunities to build expertise in healthcare partnerships. This position is ideal for an emerging professional with consulting or business experience in healthcare or in organizational strategy and finance. The Role: The Healthcare Consultant – Strategy & Performance Improvement, will work closely with rural and community hospitals to drive measurable improvements in financial and operational performance. Hospital Financial Analyst or Healthcare CPA desirable. This role is ideal for a professional with strong hospital finance and operational acumen who is eager to apply analytical rigor and practical problem-solving in a consulting environment. Consultants will:
- Work directly with hospital executives (including CEOs, CFOs, and boards)
- Analyze financial, operational, and reimbursement data to identify improvement opportunities
- Support turnaround strategies, margin improvement initiatives, and long-term financial planning
- Contribute to high-impact engagements focused on sustainability and
- performance optimization
- You will work within a collaborative team structure and play a key role in developing actionable, data-driven recommendations for clients.
The Ideal Candidate: We are seeking a consultant who:
- Has 2–5 years of experience in healthcare consulting, or hospital finance, operations, or administration
Education and Industry Experience:
- Advanced degree and/or 10+ years experience in Healthcare Strategy, Performance Improvement or Finance .
Strong exposure to:
- Hospital financial management and financial analysis
- Budgeting, forecasting, and performance improvement initiatives
This individual is curious, self-directed, and motivated to improve healthcare delivery in rural communities. This role may be either hybrid to our Portland, Maine office or fully remote. Preferred Experience & Credentials: Strong preference for candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Critical Access Hospitals (CAH)
- Hospital reimbursement and Medicare cost reporting
- Accounting and financial reporting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA track
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or similar advanced degree
- Finance experience reporting to the hospital CFO or finance leader
Required Skills:
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with advanced Excel capabilities
- Ability to interpret complex financial and operational data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience creating executive-level presentations and reports
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Willingness to travel (~30%)
