Senior QA Automation Engineer (Remote)

GovCIO is currently hiring for Sr. QA Automation Engineer to provide senior-level expertise in designing scalable test automation strategies, leading complex testing efforts, and mentoring junior engineers. This position will be a fully remote position within the United States.

Responsibilities

Advanced Testing & Quality Engineering - Architect, design, and implement robust automation frameworks using Cypress, Playwright, Selenium (Java), or AI‑assisted testing tools. - Lead complex test planning and execution for functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing. - Conduct advanced API, interface, data validation, and web-services testing using tools such as ReadyAPI, Postman, Wave, and AMP. - Perform deep-dive analysis across complex system integrations, enterprise APIs, and data flows to identify root causes and quality risks. - Drive optimization of test execution strategies and automation coverage across CI/CD pipelines. Test Strategy, Planning & Process Leadership - Lead development of scalable, enterprise-grade test strategies aligned to program goals, system architectures, and integration requirements. - Ensure adherence to established QA processes while guiding continuous improvement efforts. - Own development and maintenance of the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) at scale. - Oversee creation and refinement of test plans, test cases, and automation scripts. - Provide senior-level reporting and analysis of test metrics, quality KPIs, and readiness assessments. Tools, Technology & Engineering Enablement - Act as subject matter expert on cloud-based testing approaches leveraging AWS environments. - Mentor teams in best practices for CI/CD execution using Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, and GitHub. - Evaluate emerging tools and technologies, recommending adoption strategies to enhance quality engineering maturity. - Support creation of reusable automation components and improve framework scalability. Leadership, Collaboration & Communication - Serve as a senior quality advocate, collaborating with developers, product owners, requirements analysts, and technical leads. - Facilitate knowledge sharing, training, and mentoring for QA Automation Engineers at levels 1–3. - Lead defect triage sessions, technical walkthroughs, product reviews, and Agile ceremonies. - Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert-level clarity on testing impacts and readiness. Professional Skills - Demonstrated expertise in analyzing complex systems, integrations, and enterprise data flows. - Ability to guide technical teams, influence architecture, and drive QA strategy. - Strong leadership, communication, and diagnostic skills. - Proven ability to innovate and adopt modern automation approaches.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and expertise. - Significant hands-on experience with manual, functional, integration, and automated testing. - Advanced proficiency in test automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or similar). - Deep experience with Agile Scrum methodologies and enterprise-level testing. - Expertise in Jira, Xray, and test management within Agile delivery pipelines. Preferred Qualifications - Extensive experience with enterprise interfaces, integration testing, and data-driven testing strategies. - Experience with VA systems, enterprise APIs, MPI, VA Profile, corporate databases, or Oracle scripting. - Prior support of the VA or other Federal agencies. - Remote work experience with distributed Agile teams. - Working knowledge of FISMA, NIST 800-53, HIPAA, HITECH, or similar compliance frameworks. - Understanding of Agile methodologies and the VA Veteran-Focused Integration Process (VIP). - Experience leading QA automation teams or mentoring junior engineers.
