Power Applications Engineer - Switchboard

Description The Power Applications Engineer – Switchboard supports the design, configuration, and technical development of mission-critical electrical distribution solutions for data center and critical infrastructure customers. This role works closely with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and customers to develop technically sound, code-compliant, and manufacturable power distribution solutions supporting pre-sale quotation and project execution activities. Serving as a technical resource for switchboards, switchgear, metering systems, and related low-voltage power distribution equipment, this position ensures proposed solutions align with customer specifications, operational requirements, and applicable industry standards. The role plays a critical part in supporting scalable, reliable infrastructure solutions for Hyperscale and mission-critical environments. Core Responsibilities Partner with Sales and customers to develop and configure mission-critical power distribution solutions for data center and critical infrastructure applications Create, review, and support pre-sale technical designs including one-line diagrams, system configurations, and equipment selections for RFQs and proposals Ensure proposed solutions comply with applicable standards and codes including NEC, UL, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, IEEE, and IEC requirements Evaluate customer technical specifications and provide application guidance for Tier I–IV data center power system architectures Prepare submittal documentation including drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation following project award Collaborate with Manufacturing and Production teams to support configuration alignment, manufacturability, and lead-time coordination Support development and maintenance of configuration tools and standardized application engineering workflows Serve as a technical resource for switchboards, switchgear, breakers, metering systems, and power quality solutions Additional Responsibilities Support technical responses for RFIs and RFPs, including customer-facing technical presentations Participate in design reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT) support, and field issue resolution activities when required Provide technical training and knowledge sharing to Sales teams and internal stakeholders Support continuous improvement initiatives related to application standards, tools, and technical documentation Assist in refining standardized configuration methodologies and application engineering best practices What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day Reviewing customer specifications and RFQ documentation for mission-critical power projects Developing one-line diagrams and equipment configurations for switchboard and low-voltage power systems Coordinating with engineering and manufacturing teams to validate solution feasibility and production alignment Supporting proposal development and technical documentation preparation Assisting with customer technical discussions and clarification requests Supporting continuous improvement of application engineering workflows and configuration tools

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related technical field 5+ years of experience supporting data center, critical power, or low-voltage distribution systems with a focus on switchboards and switchgear solutions Strong understanding of one-line diagrams, electrical system architecture, and equipment configuration principles Experience reviewing RFQ/RFI/RFP documentation and customer technical specifications for mission-critical infrastructure projects Strong knowledge of electrical standards including UL891, UL1062, UL1558, NEC, IEC, and related manufacturing considerations Familiarity with switchboards, switchgear, breakers, metering systems, and power quality solutions Experience with Siemens COMPAS and Schneider Electric SE Advantage switchboard/panelboard configuration tools Strong technical communication and customer-facing skills Ability to travel up to 10–15% as required Preferred Experience supporting Tier I–IV data center power system designs Knowledge of medium-voltage systems up to 38kV Familiarity with PLC-based monitoring and control systems Experience developing or supporting application engineering configuration tools Familiarity with UL certification processes and compliance documentation Why Hyper? Compensation

The anticipated minimum hiring range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
