About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented HR Administrator to support the firm's growing team. This role sits at the intersection of human resources and law firm operations — you'll manage the full employment lifecycle from recruiting and onboarding through compliance, documentation, and offboarding. You'll work directly with firm leadership and play a key role in maintaining the people infrastructure that keeps our practice running at its best.
What You'll Do
Manage end-to-end hiring workflows: job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and offer letter drafting Conduct first-round phone screens and prepare candidate evaluation summaries for attorney review Draft, maintain, and update HR documents including offer letters, duty statements, PIPs, personnel action notices, and employment agreements Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for staff across all roles (attorneys, paralegals, support staff, contractors) Ensure compliance with California employment law, including wage and hour regulations, classification requirements, and mandatory disclosures Maintain personnel records and HR documentation in the firm's document management systems Administer and track PTO, benefits enrollment, and employee status changes Support firm leadership on sensitive HR matters including disciplinary actions and terminations Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of firm HR policies and the employee handbook
What We're Looking For
Required: 2+ years of HR experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment Strong working knowledge of California employment law (wage/hour, at-will employment, classification, leave laws) Exceptional written communication — you produce clean, accurate documents without being asked twice High proficiency with technology; comfort learning new platforms quickly Discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee information Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment with minimal supervision Preferred: Experience supporting legal staff hiring (paralegals, attorneys, law clerks) Familiarity with PracticePanther, Slack, OpenPhone, Adobe Sign, Dropbox, or Otter.ai HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) Experience drafting 1099 contractor agreements and classifying workers under California law Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Remote-first work environment Health benefits Paid time off Apply To This Job
