CAD Technician – Rhino 3D (Production / CNC / Composites)
About the role We are looking for a CAD Technician with strong experience in Rhino 3D to support production work for fiberglass and composite parts, primarily related to marine / boat manufacturing. This is a hands-on, production-oriented role. The focus is accuracy, organization, and consistency, not high-level design, branding, or conceptual work. You will work with existing 3D geometry and convert it into clean, accurate 2D flat patterns and CNC-ready files for manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Work daily in Rhinoceros 3D to manipulate and organize production models.
- Convert 3D surfaces into accurate 2D flat patterns using workflows such as Unroll, Smash, Rebuild, and surface cleanup.
- Clean, join, simplify, and prepare geometry for manufacturing use.
- Apply offsets, overlaps, splits, and seams based on provided production standards.
- Organize parts using layers, naming conventions, numbering systems, and color standards.
- Create nested CNC cut files for roll goods or sheet materials.
- Prepare layout and schematic drawings (PDF) showing part placement and basic assembly guidance.
- Follow structured, repeatable workflows with minimal back-and-forth after training.
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D (daily, professional use).
- Solid understanding of:
1. Surface modeling and NURBS geometry. 2. Converting 3D surfaces into 2D flat patterns. 3. 2D drafting and layout for manufacturing.
- High attention to detail and file cleanliness.
- Ability to follow exact standards and instructions.
- Comfortable working independently in a task-based workflow.
- Functional English for training, written instructions, and basic communication.
Nice to have (not required) Experience with:
- Fiberglass, composites, or marine / boat building.
- CNC cutting, nesting, or fabrication file preparation.
- Roll goods and sheet goods material layouts.
- Familiarity with digital fabrication or production environments.
Work style
- Task-based production work.
- Files and instructions are provided; execution is independent.
- Accuracy is more important than speed (speed comes with repetition).
- After initial training, work is largely autonomous.
What you will deliver
- Each project typically includes:
1. CNC-ready cut files (properly nested and layered). 2. Layout / schematic PDFs for production reference. Location & contract
- Remote.
- Stable, ongoing production work.
- Training provided with examples, reference files, and clear standards.
