Key Responsibilities
As a Medical Record/Data Entry Clerk/Project Support Associate, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Retrieving patient medical records from various hospital systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Generating and preparing patient itemized bills in appropriate formats for internal and external audits, adhering to regulatory requirements
- Extracting and entering necessary information from/to hospital patient accounting systems, maintaining data integrity and security
- Making phone calls to post-acute healthcare facilities to obtain information needed on patients, building strong relationships and resolving issues efficiently
- Running and creating reports to support data analysis and decision-making, identifying trends and areas for improvement
- Assisting with any other information gathering or data entry as needed by the recovery team, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines
- Scanning and indexing documents, maintaining a secure and organized digital filing system
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- 1-2 years of experience in medical records, data entry, or a related field, with a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with electronic health records (EHRs) and hospital patient accounting systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with healthcare professionals and clients
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and data integrity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications would be advantageous:
- Experience working in a healthcare revenue cycle or medical records department
- Familiarity with coding systems, such as ICD-10-CM and CPT
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OIG guidelines
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools, such as SQL or Tableau
- Certification in medical records or a related field, such as RHIT or CCS
