Yes Location CountyAlbany Street AddressDivision of Family Health Corning Tower Building, Empire State Plaza CityAlbany StateNY Zip Code12237 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionThe Research Scientist will work within the Bureau of Data Analytics, Research, and Evaluation in the Division of Family Health and will assist in a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities related to the New York State Perinatal Quality Collaborative (NYSPQC). Under the direction of higher-level researchers, the Research Scientist will collect, monitor, and analyze quality improvement data in support of the New York State Respectful Care & Safe Reduction of Nulliparous, Term, Singleton, Vertex (NTSV) Cesarean Birth Project, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Family-centered Care Project, and any additional projects under the scope of the NYSPQC. This individual will participate in all phases of research, including literature review, project measure development, statistical analysis, and the development of written reports and presentation of findings. The Research Scientist will contribute to the development of surveys, online data questionnaires, forms and other tools for electronic NYSPQC data collection; review data submissions from NYS birthing hospitals and centers for completeness and accuracy; provide direct technical assistance to providers as needed; create run charts, data summary reports and visualizations using SAS and Tableau; and apply the principles of quality improvement science to design and implement evaluation studies. The Research Scientist will also participate in other bureau and departmental research-related activities and groups. If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist other research staff with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties with greater independence under the direction of higher-level research scientists and may supervise lower-level staff or student interns. Minimum QualificationsAssistant Research Scientist (G-14): Bachelor's degree in biology, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, epidemiology, infection control, public health, statistics/biostatistics, or a related degree

  • AND one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field.

SUBSTITUTIONS 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.   • AND two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.

SUBSTITUTIONS master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.

  • Related degrees may include Economics, Education, Mathematics, Medical Anthropology, Medical Geography, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacology, Psychology, Sociology, or other relevant Social Science, or Natural Science.

Preferred Qualifications: Work experience or coursework in statistics, health services, or research design. Experience performing research and analyses with large administrative and/or clinical data sets. Experience summarizing and presenting research findings. Proficiency in SAS and/or SQL programming, Tableau, mapping software, and Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
