Bilingual Labor Law Investigator - Spanish

• *THE POSITION** Are you fluent in Spanish and do you want to be part of a team that monitors and enforces Pennsylvania's laws that protect workers' rights? Apply for this Bilingual Labor Law Investigator position with the Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Labor Law Compliance, Pittsburgh Regional Office. With our team, you will help provide employees and employers with information about the state laws through public education programs, conduct inspections and investigations, resolve disputes, and initiate prosecution against employers for violations which cannot be corrected through the administrative process.   • *DESCRIPTION OF WORK**

In this role, you will be responsible investigating compliance with Pennsylvania workers’ rights and labor laws, making decisions about the course of each investigation and when it is appropriate to write letters, have administrative conferences, visit the establishment, or take other actions. Work involves receiving and screening complaints; requesting documents and pertinent information from employees, employers, and invested parties; and conducting audits of payroll records, timecards, and related materials. You will also travel to business locations for audit tasks and to inspect businesses or projects to investigate for potential violations. Effective communication skills are key for success as you will be conducting timely, detailed interviews of claimants and business owners both over the phone and in person; facilitating conferences with claimants and employers, when appropriate; and educating contractors, organizations, employees, and public officials of the requirements of the laws and on recent legal decisions affecting the application of such laws. This includes speaking to school district officials, project managers, company representatives, parents or guardians, and entertainment industry companies. Our team will rely on you to maintain timely and detailed work notes of case progress, prepare case narratives and detailed reports of investigations, and file prosecutions when necessary. This includes collecting physical evidence and eyewitness accounts to prepare for prosecution, as well as representing the Commonwealth in prosecutions before the District Justice and testifying as the Commonwealth's expert witness at administrative and court hearings.   • *Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

  • *QUALIFICATIONS
  • *Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training..
  • *Additional Requirements:**

• You must be able to fluently speak and write in Spanish.

  • You must possess and maintain federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
  • You must live in or be willing to move to the geographic region the Pittsburgh District Office covers by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid.
