Overview
SMX is seeking a Mainframe Z/VSE Systems Technician to support enterprise IBM mainframe environments. This is a long-term, remote opportunity; however, candidates must perform work from within U.S. territory. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with IBM Z/VM and Z/VSE systems and be comfortable working in English, as this role involves direct collaboration with IBM teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and implement IBM Mainframe Z/VM and Z/VSE operating systems and ISV software
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues in mainframe environments
- Perform periodic operating system and hardware maintenance
- Manage and support disaster recovery procedures and capacity planning
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure system reliability and performance
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Z/VM and Z/VSE operating systems
- Knowledge of IBM utilities (e.g., IDCAMS, Ditto)
- Strong problem-solving skills with emphasis on root cause analysis
- Ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional technical teams
- Experience with technical documentation and process management
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work from within the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Z/OS or Z/Linux environments
- Previous experience working with IBM teams or enterprise mainframe systems
