Title: Clinical Informatics Pharmacist Location: UT, CO, NV, ID, MT Job Description: The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist—pediatric/neonatal focus—supports the safe and effective use of medications by optimizing how pharmacy-related functionality is used within the electronic health record (EHR) and related systems. This role focuses on evaluating requests, improving workflows, and ensuring that clinical content and decision support align with organizational policies and patient care needs, with a primary emphasis on pediatric and neonatal populations. This role will be focused primarily on supporting our pediatric and neonatal hospitals across Intermountain Health, including pediatric-specific hospitals and clinic locations, and will serve as a pediatric/neonatal subject matter expert for medication-related EHR design and clinical decision support. The position works closely with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and operational leaders to clarify requirements, assess impact, and coordinate changes. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist serves as a liaison between clinical staff and technical teams and is responsible for ensuring that system changes are appropriate, well understood, and effectively implemented. This position will work Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm. Occasional need for afterhours or weekend worktime to support go-lives or other needs as part of the role. Applicants applying to this position MUST have an active license to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances in a state in which Intermountain Health conducts business (UT, CO, NV, ID, MT). Essential Functions

  • Works with the EHR build team (Epic Willow and Others) to design and optimize medication-related clinical content within the EHR and associated systems (e.g., order sets, decision support rules, medication records, formulary controls).
  • Reviews and evaluates requests for system changes; determines feasibility, impact, and alignment with clinical and operational priorities.
  • Collaborates with clinicians and operational leaders to clarify requirements and improve medication-use workflows.
  • Ensures clinical decision support is appropriate, evidence-based, and aligned with patient safety and organizational goals.
  • Monitors system performance and identifies opportunities to improve medication safety, usability, and efficiency.
  • Investigates reported issues, identifies root causes, and coordinates resolution of system-related problems.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on medication-related functionality and workflows within the EHR.
  • Supports testing, validation, and implementation of system changes to ensure expected outcomes.
  • Participates in committees, projects, and performance improvement efforts related to medication use and informatics.
  • Maintains documentation of workflows, decisions, and system changes.
  • This is a remote position, but there is an expectation to intermittently travel to Intermountain Health Sites as needed to support job functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy (degree will be verified).
  • License to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances in a state that Intermountain Health conducts business.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency or three years of clinical pharmacy practice experience.
  • Understanding of fundamentals of relational database systems.
  • Training in human factors.
  • Previous experience with medication policy, medication safety, and formulary management.
  • Previous experience in an integrated healthcare delivery system.
  • Proven experience engaging providers, nurses, and other clinicians in learning through presentation and communication skills
  • Experience in a role requiring excellent communication (written and verbal), planning, prioritization, and execution skills with a strong service orientation.
  • Experience in a role requiring the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience in a role requiring skills related to balancing clinical, regulatory and financial goals and outcomes and collaborating with all levels within an organization.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy workflows in a healthcare system
  • Experience applying informatics fundamentals (People, Process, Technology) to impact quality and safety.
  • Experience participating and leading deliverables of Informatics projects
  • Experience working with Cerner, Epic, or other EHR vendors
  • Experience or training in the use of Continuous Improvement
  • Able to provide business hours, after-hours and weekend support regarding system development.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pharmacy informatics or a related role.
  • Pediatric and/or neonatal pharmacy practice experience in an acute-care children’s hospital and/or NICU/PICU environment.
  • Epic Certification (Willow preferred)
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Informatics Residency Program.
  • Familiarity with basic data concepts and relational database systems.
  • Experience with medication policy, formulary management, or medication safety initiatives.
  • Experience in a large or integrated healthcare system.
  • Experience with reporting, data analysis, or system evaluation.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards, terminology systems, and privacy requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
