Assistant Coach: Track & Field - Sprints (Part-Time) Vacancy Notice: Thursday, April 16, 2026 Application Deadline: Sunday, May 10, 2026 by 11:59 PM CST Position Type: Professional Hours: Part Time Reports To: Head Track & Field / Cross Country Coach Job Summary Hawkeye Community College's Athletics program is looking for a part-time Men's and Women's Assistant Track & Field Sprints Coach to join their team from August through May (approximately 32 weeks a year). As the Assistant Track & Field Coach, you assist with the supervision and coaching of practices and competitions with an emphasis on sprinting events. Additionally, you aid in directing practices, managing practice and travel schedules, as well as, supervising team conduct during competition, travel, tournaments, and other events where the team is represented. Furthermore, you participate in the planning, organizing, and execution of preseason and season practices in addition to fostering a positive team atmosphere. Due to the nature of the work involved in coaching; many weeks will entail morning, evening, and weekend hours. Needs of the department vary and the percent of time devoted to each part of the job will be governed by seasonal and immediate needs of the department. In 2015, Hawkeye Community College launched its first ever intercollegiate sport program and has since accumulated 17 athletic programs to include: sports shooting, men & women's soccer, men and women's cross country, men & women's track and field, men & women's golf, women's volleyball, esports, competitive dance, women's softball, men & women's bowling, and men & women's wrestling. The Hawkeye RedTail Athletic Programs compete within the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as Division II when applicable. Essential Job Functions Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists in the supervision and instruction of all practices and competitions with an emphasis on sprinting events. Assists in the administrative operations of the program to include scheduling, team travel, etc. Promotes positive public relations for the program. Provides first aid in emergency situations and complete annual blood borne pathogen training and CPR certification. Performs set-up, tear-downs, and storage of equipment. Enforces and maintains all safety policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field / Cross Country Coach or administration. Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye's remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years coaching and/or competing in sprinting events for Track & Field. CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment. Strong commitment to high ethical standards and integrity. Must possess a current driver's license valid in the State of Iowa and a driving record insurable by the College's insurer. Must be able to obtain additional endorsements as needed. Demonstrated ability to work flexible hours to include evening and weekend hours. Demonstrated ability to travel. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology. Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree or higher. One-year or more experience working with college age athletes. One-year experience NJCAA and ICCAC policies. Working Conditions It is anticipated that this position work 32 weeks a year (August through May) with an average of 20-25 hours per week. Due to the nature of the work involved in coaching; many weeks will entail morning, evening, and weekend hours. Needs of the department vary and the percent of time devoted to each part of the job will be governed by seasonal and immediate needs of the department. Requires skills for succeeding in an indoor, outdoor and educational environment using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Work is performed in an education and athletic setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. Outdoor environments may become susceptible to inclement weather conditions. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer. Employment Status Regular, part-time 32-week position. After 1-year, potential eligibility for a choice of retirement programsIPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution) may be available. This position has a salary of $12,360.
