- *About The Role**
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Backend Software Engineer with expertise in Node.js and AWS to join our Search engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will drive the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of our full-stack applications, supporting Yahoo Search’s ambitious goals to redefine how users find information and achieve their objectives. You will oversee a talented team of engineers, ensuring code quality, performance, security, and scalability. Your strategic leadership will facilitate collaboration across product, design, and engineering teams, enabling the rapid development and deployment of innovative features. - *Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, specializing in Node.js, C++, and Python
- 5+ years of experience working with large-scale distributed systems
- Strong proficiency in GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and API design and implementation
- Extensive experience with full-stack JavaScript development using Node.js, Express, Nest, Fastify, etc.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including infrastructure and serverless architectures
- Database expertise with PostgreSQL or similar technologies
- Frontend development experience with React, Vue, or comparable JavaScript frameworks
- Knowledge of big data technologies and performance optimization techniques
- Proven ability to mentor and lead development teams, conducting code reviews and guiding best practices
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles, continuous improvement, and Agile methodologies
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills, especially in remote or hybrid environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- *Responsibilities
- Lead and own the delivery of full-stack applications within a cross-functional product squad, ensuring alignment with business objectives, security standards, and regulatory compliance
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and robust application architectures and system designs
- Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, engineers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Perform code reviews, provide technical guidance, and ensure adherence to architectural and coding standards
- Evaluate third-party tools, APIs, and frameworks for integration, prioritizing security, performance, and scalability
- Drive continuous process improvements in development workflows, tooling, automation, and deployment practices
- Mentor and coach engineering team members, fostering a culture of innovation, learning, and technical excellence
- Communicate complex technical concepts and decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
- Lead large-scale digital transformation initiatives, including cloud migration, modernization, and infrastructure scaling
