The Materials and Structural Analysis (MSD) Electron Microscopy (EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. The MSD Electron Microscopy (EM) business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflow solutions that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. As a Field Service Engineer III, you will provide expert-level installation, maintenance, and repair services for advanced analytical and electron microscopy systems. Serving as a technical subject matter expert, you will support complex troubleshooting efforts, mentor field service engineers, and ensure exceptional service delivery to customers across research institutions, universities, and industrial facilities. In this role, you will resolve highly complex system issues, lead major installations, and collaborate with engineering, product development, and service leadership teams to improve system performance and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Perform installation, repair, calibration, and maintenance of advanced electron microscopy systems, including:Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systems Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex system-level failures involving electronics, vacuum systems, high voltage systems, and integrated software. Serve as a technical escalation point for other field service engineers and support complex service cases. Lead complex installations, upgrades, and system rebuilds. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior field service engineers. Develop strong strategic relationships with customers and serve as a trusted technical advisor. Deliver advanced customer training on system operation, maintenance, and best practices. Provide feedback to engineering, product development, and quality teams to improve system reliability and serviceability. Support continuous improvement initiatives across the field service organization. Maintain accurate service documentation and provide input for improving service procedures and technical documentation. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and advanced technical experience. 5+ years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting sophisticated analytical instrumentation such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems. Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems. Expert-level electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Deep understanding of electron microscopy systems and subsystems. Advanced ability to diagnose complex system-level failures. Strong customer relationship management skills. Excellent communication and mentoring abilities. Ability to train customers and internal engineers on advanced system functionality. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license Ability to travel up to 75% within assigned territory Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in laboratory environments English proficiency required, additional languages beneficial Apply To This Job
