JOB SUMMARY: The Chargemaster Specialist conducts a detailed review of hospital and clinic chargemaster line items to validate or recommend appropriate assignment of CPT/HCPCS, revenue code, and related billing or compliance concerns. Provides and communicates accurate CDM coding recommendations. The Specialist may perform all or most of the primary accountabilities listed below. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the Specialist performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager. High School diploma or equivalent 5 years working in a position that manages the chargemaster in a facility environment, or similar education and experience CPC, CRC, CCS, RHIT preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong knowledge of billing, compliance, and clinical service lines Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment Ability to actively collaborate with cross-functional teams Exceptional customer service and follow-up skills Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Identifies invalid or inaccurate HCPCS, CPT®, Revenue Codes, pharmacy unit multipliers, and any other inconsistencies within the client chargemaster for facility services, clinics, swing beds, and professional fees Reviews facility supply items to evaluate billable characteristics and appropriate HCPCS codes Assists in evaluating appropriate professional fee assignment of Evaluation and Management codes Ability to handle stressful situations and work within tight deadlines Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Ability to research, understand, analyze and make recommendations concerning healthcare services Displays initiative and works independently with minimal supervision Demonstrates a consistent professional demeanor Tracks client projects and tasks Physical Requirements and Demands: Note: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions as described. The ability to perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions is required. At times, incumbents are subject to sitting for prolonged periods. Infrequently, the incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. Incumbents may experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines.
