Third-party or C2C candidates will not be considered. This position requires U.S. Citizens only to meet the DoD requirements. Objectives

  • The Subcontractor will provide one (1) DAOS System Administrator during the Service Period on Subcontractor Work Days to provide Service remotely as defined herein.
  • There are no specific predefined milestones which must be completed and there are no materials that must be delivered during the Service Period.
  • The HPE DAOS System Administrator will have access to client internal networks and knowledge/expertise of client technology and internal processes, as well as knowledge of issues related to application performance including the application execution environment such as compilers, tools, and associated libraries.
  • Services may include assistance with performance monitoring of applications, all aspects of application performance and optimization, benchmarking of architectures and usage of tools to increase productivity.
  • Services requested are expected to be within the System Administrator job description and skills level and abilities.
  • Specific tasks associated with the Services listed above may be assigned by ALCF during the term of the purchased Service Period.
  • The Subcontractor is obligated to perform the Services listed above during the Service Period.
  • If a specific task assigned cannot be completed during the Service Period, then the Subcontractor shall not be held accountable to complete that task.

Tasks The HPE DAOS System Administrator will provide daily support for the ALCF DAOS systems. The specific work items will be decided by mutual agreement between the DAOS System Administrator and the ALCF DAOS Administrative Lead. The core tasks may include:

  • Service delivery:
  • Log in to HPC system storage components and run commands and scripts to manage and maintain the system health and performance
  • Review log files for errors and warnings indicating possible issues with system health and performance, and collaborate with customers and HPE on resolution
  • Plan ahead and exercise appropriate caution and care when executing privilege-level commands
  • Collaborate with team members using face-to-face, phone, and online communication including email, Teams, and Slack
  • Support planning and scheduling of system software upgrades including estimation of time and effort required to complete
  • The Subcontractor will provide three (3) months of DAOS SME oversight in addition to the the Subcontractor designated support TSE
  • The Subcontractor designated TSE will have direct access to the DAOS SME as well as the development and testing team for ongoing elevated technical issues or concerns including product training
  • Issue resolution:
  • Participate in regular team discussions of system issues and follow-up on assigned tasks
  • Perform triage and diagnosis of issues to DAOS storage
  • Prescribe HW actions to be taken for repairs
  • Provide status to Site Team Lead and/or directly to customer
  • Create new Cases (if necessary) and elevate Cases to Level 2/Level 3 support as needed difficult problem diagnostics or issue resolution
  • Client Coordination:
  • Specific touchpoints and roles & responsibilities between client system administrators and HPE system administrators may vary according to ALCF needs and service level specific to DAOS.
  • Professional Development:
  • Complete required training when assigned on specialized storage operating systems in a timely manner.
  • Maintain training and certification prescribed by the Subcontractor and/or ALCF.
  • Monitor HPE technical communications (e.g. field notices) for awareness of potential issues that could be encountered on the system at their site.
  • In addition to the Services defined throughout this Proposal, the Subcontractor shall coordinate activities of all HPE resources.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Responsibilities

  • College graduate preferred, or applicable experience through military or other formal learning.
  • Experience in operating high-performance storage systems.
  • Experience with computer hardware required
  • Experience with HPC cluster preferred
  • Experience in distributed storage systems, especially in large scale environments
  • Familiar with software deployment testing to validate application's functionality, performance, and compatibility in production environment.
  • Collaboration and communication skills working with product development and test teams to deliver storage solutions
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex storage issues efficiently
  • Strong knowledge of Linux administration, including command-line operations
  • Proficient in scripting languages for automation
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a globally distributed team

Task and Time Reporting There will be two weekly meeting to discuss DAOS status with the internal client team and external HPE team. Progress and task assignments may occur in meetings as well as via ad-hoc message within Slack or via email. Security The DAOS System Administrator will be required to obtain an ALCF account and a HSPD-12 badge. Place of Performance The HPE DAOS System Administrator will be remotely performed within the US.
