Job description: Harper Woods School District provides comprehensive educational services to ALL students. Each student who enrolls in the school district completes a home language survey. Students identified as speaking a language other than English or when the primary home language is not English are screened using the WIDA screener. Students identified as English Learners (EL) receive specialized services to ensure that every child, regardless of national origin or native language, receives quality and meaningful educational instruction.
The duties of the EL Teacher are:
- Give WIDA test and WIDA access test as required.
- Provide curriculum resources and tools that assist content teachers in supporting EL students.
- Ensure that the EL program adheres to best practices.
- Coordinates school-based assessments and required state assessments.
- Ensure that the school complies with applicable federal and state laws related to EL students.
- Ensure that parents and guardians receive school information in their native language.
- Implement parent outreach programming for EL students, parents, and guardians.
- Maintain accountability logs for each EL student in support of teaching and learning.
- Coordinate progress monitoring meetings with parents and guardians three times per school year.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
