We value our volunteers and seek to ensure their diverse roles are rewarding and beneficial to all. Waythrough holds the Investors in Volunteers accreditation.

The role:

Magazine Editors are volunteers with lived experience of drugs, alcohol and/or mental health challenges who wants to use their journey to support and inspire others. Working with Waythrough’s Communications Team and community reporters, the editors will help shape and grow our bi-monthly (every other month) magazine, ensuring it reflects the voices, experiences and achievements of the people we support as well as developments at Waythrough’s family of services. This role involves steering the content, guiding community reporters, and helping to showcase the exciting work and projects happening across Waythrough.

Tasks may include:

  • Collaborate with the Communications Team and community reporters to develop a yearly publishing schedule that aligns each edition with our gold campaigns.
  • Help plan each edition of the magazine, including themes, stories and key messages.
  • Review and edit contributions from community reporters and guest writers.
  • Write short pieces or introductions that set the tone for each issue.
  • Work with the Communications Team to gather stories, updates and news from across Waythrough services.
  • Ensure the magazine reflects a diverse range of voices and lived experiences.
  • Contribute lived-experience insight to wider communications and corporate campaigns.
  • Support the aim of growing the magazine’s readership and increasing engagement.
  • Attend meetings with the Communications Team and community reporters to link with campaigns, discuss ideas and future editions.

Collaborate with the Creative Designer and Managing Editor to seek and listen to feedback, using these insights to shape new ideas that enhance the magazine’s look, feel, and overall readership experience.
