These positions are for camps operating in Buford and Lawrenceville atBill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center, Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center,and Gwinnett Community Resources Center on Suwanee Avenue.Hiring Salary Range: (based on experience)Camp Directors: $19.00 - $21.00/hourInclusion Counselors: $17.00 - $19.00/hourCamp Counselors: $16.00 - $17.00/hour Job Descriptions Camp Directors, Inclusion Counselors, and Camp Counselors are responsible for orienting, monitoring, and leading children through the day-to-day operations of summer camp, including the setup and cleanup of equipment and supplies for camp activities. Candidates must have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, must be comfortable working outdoors, be effective communicators with children and adults, and be able to transition groups of children effectively. Camp staff are required to enforce rules and regulations, ensure attendance and camp records are completed, provide first aid as needed, maintain equipment and inventory, and report/manage discipline problems, accidents, and other incidents.Specific responsibilities and minimum requirements for each position are listed below. Please note that there will be several days of MANDATORY training required of staff during the month of May 2026. These dates will be shared at time of interview.Essential Duties:Camp Counselors:Communicating all issues with the Camp Director and Program SupervisorHelping to develop and implement lesson plansLeading children through the day-to-day operation of camp, including set up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for camp activitiesLeading various activities, games, and crafts for campersMaintaining equipment and inventory Inclusion Counselors:Communicating all issues and concerns to the Program SupervisorInteracting with parents and completing paperwork, including weekly reports Leading children through the day-to-day operation of camp, including set up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for camp activities Maintaining confidentiality of parents, children, and staff Maintaining equipment and inventory Orienting, monitoring, and leading children in various activities Supervising and leading various activities, games, and crafts for campers Working directly with campers who have physical and/or cognitive disabilitiesCamp Directors:Communicating all issues and concerns with Program Supervisor Developing and implementing camp curriculumLeading children and counselors through the day-to-day operation of camp, including set up and clean-up of equipment and supplies for camp activities Monitoring camp staff attendance and work hours and completing and submitting time sheetsOrienting, monitoring, and leading children in various activities Participating in staff and program evaluation Supervising and leading various activities, games, and crafts for campers Supervising camp staff, interacting with parents, and completing paperwork, including weekly reportsOther Job Requirements/Information (for all positions)This job requires fingerprinting: candidates must undergo a comprehensive background check and obtain a satisfactory determination from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).Hourly rateThe Grade for this position is 97. Pay rate will be dependent on education and experience. Minimum QualificationsCamp Counselors:Must be at least 16 years oldCPR and First Aid certification is required before the first day of camp (training available from the department after hiring)Previous experience working in a day camp setting or teaching children is preferredCamp Inclusion Counselors:Must be at least 18 years oldMust possess a valid Georgia driver's licenseCPR and First Aid certification is required before the first day of camp (training available from the department after hiring)Previous experience working in a day camp setting or teaching children with special needs, or college coursework in special education or related fieldsPrevious experience working in a day camp setting or teaching children is preferredAbility to determine accommodations and communicate adjustments with other camp staffCamp Directors:Must be at least 18 years oldMust possess a valid Georgia driver's license CPR and First Aid certification is required before the first day of camp (training available from the department after hiring)Previous experience working in a day camp setting or teaching childrenCollege level course work in recreation, health and wellness, elementary/secondary education, or a similar field of study is requiredMust have supervisory experienceExperience or formal education of techniques employed in working with special needs specifically behaviorally challenged populations preferredPhysical RequirementsThe work involves direct involvement with day camp participants which typically requires bending, crouching, stooping, standing for long periods, considerable walking, and may require intermittent lifting of objects of a minimum of 25 pounds.
