Director, Software Engineering, Systems Infrastructure (Online Infra)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

About the position At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. Reporting to the VP of Online Infrastructure , this role will be based in Mountain View, CA, and will lead an organization of approximately 50 engineers and managers. The Derived Data Systems team is a cornerstone of LinkedIn's data-driven ecosystem, responsible for architecting, building, and operating the high-performance platforms that create and manage high-value, queryable assets used by nearly every product on the site. This team's charter spans two mission-critical platforms: Graph Database (Liquid): The backbone for most LinkedIn products, providing the definitive source for all connections data. It supports real-time, high-QPS graph queries across a massive, highly connected dataset, powering features like Feed Personalization and core applications that leverage member connections. • Lead and mentor a high-performing organization of engineering managers and senior technical leaders (totaling ~50 people), fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
  • Drive the execution of multi-year, strategic initiatives, including the development of Liquid v2 and the migration to a modern, cloud-native analytics architecture.
  • Partner closely with product engineering, other infrastructure teams, and executive leadership to ensure the platforms meet the demanding scale, performance, efficiency, and usability requirements of LinkedIn's global member base and customer products.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and operational excellence of mission-critical derived data systems operating at massive scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience managing managers and leading organizations of 50+ people.
  • Deep expertise in architecting and scaling mission-critical, high-QPS distributed systems, especially in areas like large-scale graph databases or online analytics/data warehousing.
  • Proven track record of defining and driving large-scale architectural modernization, such as a cloud migration or multi-engine platform strategy.

Benefits

  • We strongly believe in the well-being of our employees and their families. That is why we offer generous health and wellness programs and time away for employees of all levels.
  • LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
  • The pay range for this role is $226,000 to $369,000.
