We seek a skilled and motivated AI Architect to support the State of Colorado’s efforts in adopting and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) across government agencies. You will play a key role in designing and deploying scalable AI and GenAI solutions that align with strategic business objectives. Some Of The Roles Opportunities Include Designing and developing scalable, secure, and high-value end-to-end AI/ML solutions and architectural patterns. Evaluating, selecting, and championing the appropriate AI technologies, frameworks, and tools for each project. Providing technical leadership and guidance to ensure AI solutions are implemented correctly and seamlessly integrated with existing systems. Translating complex technical concepts and project requirements into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and managing stakeholder expectations. You will act as a critical link between business needs and technical realities. Identifying and mitigating technical risks and ethical considerations while ensuring the security and maintainability of all AI solutions. Helping stakeholders understand what's possible, the risks involved, and the potential impact on the business. Navigating the rapidly evolving AI landscape to propose and implement solutions that address core business challenges. Evaluating and leading deployment of tools and platforms for AI/ML, NLP, computer vision, and predictive analytics. Ensuring seamless integration of AI with systems, following data security and compliance standards. Collaborating with business units to define KPIs, measure ROI, and drive value from AI projects. Managing end-to-end AI project delivery—from scope to launch—while guiding cross-functional teams. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While all offers are compliant with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, there is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/or education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in data architecture (solution architecture), data management and information classification at the enterprise level, including an understanding of common information architecture frameworks and information models. A minimum of two (2) years of experience leading AI initiatives in a technical or architectural capacity. Expertise in cloud platforms, specifically AWS and GCP, including their AI services. Experience with DevOps practices and tools, particularly Azure DevOps. Solid understanding of AI data governance, model explainability, and ethical AI principles. Substitutions Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications. Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications. If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications in AI/ML or cloud platforms. Prior experience working in a government agency. Conditions Of Employment OIT employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work. A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test. This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed. Supplemental Information If this posting indicates “remote from anywhere in CO” in the title, periodic reporting to the primary state work location designated for the position is required. All remote work must be performed in Colorado. While candidates from out of state will be considered for this role, the candidate selected for the position must relocate and reside in Colorado on the first day of their new position. A reasonable timeframe for relocation will be established on an individual basis, while considering business needs, and determining a start date.
