Role Description The Adjunct faculty is responsible for facilitating online nursing courses that meet the quality and standards set forth by the accrediting bodies and American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Post University under the guidance of the Assistant/Associate Dean and the Dean of the Nursing Programs.

  • Collaborate with the MSN NP Program Chair, Assistant Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Programs, and the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Programs to ensure curriculum integrity.
  • Promote optimal learning opportunities for students.
  • Cultivate a rich online environment for students.
  • Ensure home network meets minimum required speed and hardware connection settings.
  • Maintain a reliable Internet connection and a designated, private home office or alternative workspace free from noise and distractions.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • AANP or ANCC board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must be actively working in their specialty.
  • 1-2 years of experience in teaching is required.
  • Must possess an unencumbered Registered Nursing License.

Requirements

  • Provide all necessary documentation (curricula vitae, official transcripts, certifications, etc.) to support teaching credentials.
  • Have complete familiarity with American Sentinel academic policies.
  • Review and abide by the Faculty Handbook.
  • Actively participate in regular American Sentinel faculty meetings and other governance activities when available.
  • Actively participate in American Sentinel or other faculty training programs when requested.
  • Provide updates to curriculum vitae and agree to their use on American Sentinel websites and other public materials.
  • Provide copies of any licenses or certifications annually (or when renewed).
  • Provide regular updates to American Sentinel about other teaching assignments, research and publications, professional development, or academic activities.
  • Provide advice to American Sentinel on general policies and programs for improvement of student outcomes and school programs.
  • Grade student assignments within 96 hours of due date.
  • Grade all assignments in the order they are required by the course.
  • Participate in weekly discussion forums, post questions, and respond to student posts to engender debate and reflection on course concepts.
  • Review the course syllabus and notify American Sentinel of any necessary corrections/updates.
  • Send a welcome message to students via the first Discussion Forum at least 3 days prior to the course's start date.
  • Respond to student inquiries with a maximum response time of 24 hours during the week and 48 hours on weekends.
  • Monitor and respond to student posts in discussion forums at least four times per module.
  • Mark all assignments, deliverables, class participation, and professor-graded exams and submit such grades to American Sentinel College within 96 hours.
  • Follow the American Sentinel grade appeal process if a student submits a complaint.

  • The Adjunct Faculty is an independent contractor of American Sentinel.
  • Adjunct Faculty will not be eligible to participate in any vacation, medical insurance, life insurance, disability, retirement benefits, or any other benefit plans offered by American Sentinel to its employees.
  • American Sentinel will not be responsible for withholding or paying any income, payroll, Social Security, or other federal, state, or local taxes.
  • American Sentinel will not make any insurance contributions, including unemployment or disability, or obtain workers’ compensation insurance on the Adjunct Faculty’s behalf.
