Job Overview

blithequark is seeking an accomplished, compassionate, and quality-centered Data Engineering Manager to lead the data engineering efforts within the company's data analysis group. This team drives the development of blithequark's large data applications and pipelines, as well as various distributed computing services and supporting applications. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and running critical applications that underpin blithequark's software and hardware development.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, a passion for data-driven decision making, and excellent leadership skills. You will be responsible for driving the development of data pipelines that ingest, process, store, and analyze petabytes of telemetry data, and for mentoring a team of experienced engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of large-scale data applications and pipelines, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Drive the design and implementation of data engineering solutions, leveraging expertise in data processing, storage, and analysis
  • Mentor and guide a team of experienced engineers, providing technical leadership and expertise to ensure delivery of high-quality solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, product management, and data science, to drive business decisions and improve customer experiences
  • Develop and maintain complex, multi-component data systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Master-level experience with data engineering tools and technologies, including languages such as Python, Ruby, Java, Scala, Swift, or Objective C
  • Experience with at least one of the following platforms: HDFS, Yarn, Spark, Impala, Kafka, HBase, MapReduce, Kubernetes, or Item Store
  • A strong understanding of data processing, storage, and analysis, including data pipelines, data warehousing, and data visualization
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and guide a team of experienced engineers
  • A passion for data-driven decision making, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet business needs

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms, including AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Knowledge of machine learning or artificial intelligence, and experience with ML/AI frameworks and tools
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban
  • Certifications in data engineering, software engineering, or a related field
