Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Instructional Assistant - Special Education Support Professional to join our team. As an Instructional Assistant, you will provide critical support to our special education teachers and students, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individualized support to students with special needs, including assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, and instructional support
  • Assisting teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Helping students with disabilities participate in appropriate classroom activities
  • Maintaining accurate records and submitting required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Collaborating with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Providing Braille output using a variety of systems, including Braille translation software and braillewriters
  • Operating and/or assisting assigned students in the use of specialized equipment, such as braillers and keyboarding equipment

Key Responsibilities

* Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including assistance with daily living activities, behavior management, and instructional support

  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Help students with disabilities participate in appropriate classroom activities
  • Maintain accurate records and submit required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Provide Braille output using a variety of systems, including Braille translation software and braillewriters
  • Operate and/or assist assigned students in the use of specialized equipment, such as braillers and keyboarding equipment
  • Perform non-teaching classroom and ancillary duties under the direct supervision of an assigned teacher
  • Help individuals or small groups of students with remedial or enrichment activities
  • Reinforce instructional objectives introduced by the teacher
  • Help implement intervention strategies identified in individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Prepare and distribute program materials
  • Set up classroom equipment for use
  • Keep program areas orderly
  • Clean and maintain equipment as directed

Essential Qualifications

* 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit or proof of successful completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment

  • Valid state department of education license/permit as determined at the time of appointment
  • Meets all mandated state/federal criteria, including approved degree, completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses, or acceptable score on an authorized professional standards test
  • Behavioral management skills substantiated by training or work experience
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move work-related supplies and equipment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other support staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other support staff
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with students with special needs

  • Experience working in a special education setting
  • Knowledge of Braille and assistive technology
  • Ability to speak multiple languages
  • Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
