We're seeking a dedicated and compassionate Middle School Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team. Key Responsibilities

  • Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists, adapting to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Apply lesson modifications as directed, supplementing or changing them as needed to ensure students meet their learning objectives.
  • Administer curriculum-based tests and quizzes, providing support and accommodations as required.
  • Assist students with recording assignments, gathering materials, and completing tasks, promoting organization and time management skills.
  • Take notes on curriculum presented during class, as needed, to support students with special needs.
  • Provide physical care and support, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities, as instructed by teachers and therapists.
  • Observe, document, and reinforce positive student behaviors, communicating with teachers and facilitators to ensure seamless support.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress, plan upcoming lessons, and engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with non-instructional activities, maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly environment in common areas, including the lunchroom, playground, and corridors.
  • Escort students to and from buses or cars, as required, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Record and update student progress toward achieving IEP objectives, providing valuable insights for teachers and therapists.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License.
  • Experience working with special education students is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications, including Word and Excel.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, establish supportive relationships with students, and work independently.
  • Physical stamina to lift, manipulate, and assist students with daily living skills, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will be considered a plus:

  • Previous experience working in a special education setting.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and technology.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages.
