For Benefits information click HERE JOB SUMMARY Translates physicians' dictation of patient care and treatment into comprehensive typed records. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One (1) year of medical transcription experience. Accurately type more than 65 words per minute Specialized Transcription training, license or certificate preferred Basic computer knowledge with a firm understanding of Windows, Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer In order to be considered for this position, all applicants must complete a skills assessment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide accurate and timely transcribed reports of physician orders and medical documents Transcribe physicians' notes into well organized and accurate statements Transcribe and produce letters as requested Investigates inconsistencies in medical records and appropriately edit or revise without altering the meaning or changing the author's style. Responds to priority requests within acceptable time frame Participate in ongoing quality assurance projects and meetings relating to transcription. Copy, fax and shred documents KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)Knowledge of:Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookElectronic Health RecordsCorrect English usage including: rules of proper grammar, punctuation, and style, correct spelling, and logical sentence structureMedical language and its structure, editing, and terminologyCPT, DRG, and ICD-9 coding terminologies and general applicationPharmacological terminologyRelevant Sheriff's Office and Jail policies and proceduresSkills and Abilities to: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writingOperate standard office machinesOperate standard transcription station with foot controlsOperate a telephone systemFollow verbal and written procedures and instructionsMaintain confidentiality and security of health care documentationWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork duties are typically performed in a general office setting.Ability to sit for long periods of time.Ability to lift items up to 20 poundsAbility to use a keyboard for long periods of time.Must have a normal level of audiometric acuity.Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
